Local Name: Manggis
Scientific Name: Garcinia mangostana
Origin/Habitat: Mangosteen is a green constant tropical tree, believed to exist originally from Maluku and Sunda Island
Details: A juvenile mangosteen fruit first appears as pale green or almost white in color. After two to three months, the skin colour changes to darker green and then purple when ripe. The fruit grows bigger in size until its exocarp is 6–8 centimetres (2.4–3.1 in) in outside diameter, which indicates ripening stage.
Uses: Only the white flesh of the purple mangosteen is edible
